“She’s a Riv-48 and is one of those boats that just pulls fish. It’s got the right harmonics with the two big engines humming away and not too many electrical currents put into the water and the fish just seem to love it.”
Built in 1996 and based up at the Bay of Islands – it gained notoriety after landing a massive Black Marlin just off the iconic Hole in the Rock. The 406.1kg black marlin won the Millennium tournament, fished out of Tutukaka in 2000.
“As soon as people see this boat’s back in charter after about ten years out of service, we’ll get very busy,” says Rusty.
“Everyone is welcome on our trips. Families, experienced fishermen or we can teach someone who’s never been out before and show them a great trip. It’s such a great sea boat it’s very heavy and stable. I’ve been out in some big swells on this boat and it just cruises. No drama at all. You feel very safe. It’s well built and well designed.”
